Martyrs’ In Tunnels

Hassan Nasrallah ig-nored the recent events in Syria for the second time in his speech, but continued his tirade against Bahrain and other GCC countries. The Hezbollah leader seems blind to the cold-blooded killing of demonstrators, who merely demanded freedom in Syria, yet he sees Bahrain taking legitimate steps to protect its sovereignty and stability from his hideout. Nasrallah described Bahrain’s action as unjust and oppressive, yet the numerous victims of gunshots, who lost their lives in the neighboring state, meant nothing to him. Life in the tunnel might have caused the shortsightedness of this militia leader to such an extent that he cannot see beyond a few kilometers from his hiding place. His desire to see the sunlight may have prompted him to consider participating in a conspiracy against other Arab nations.

Again, Nasrallah appeared on television from his hideout to announce the instructions of his masters. However, this speech was different from those he delivered earlier, because he did not open his mouth to threaten and intimidate others. He tried to look pious while claiming that unfair steps have been taken to justify attacks on Bahrain, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. He also expressed concern over the people’s plight. This makes us wonder whether he is the only one concerned about the people’s predicament — as if the entire world lacks the capacity to overcome the crises. Was he referring to a world in which the Hezbollah engages in terrorist activities and assassinations or plants destructive cells in Egypt, Bahrain and many other countries?

The most astonishing part of the latest speech of the Hezbollah leader was his justification for living in a tunnel. He has always claimed to be pursuing a ‘martyrdom project’, so he should not be scared of death or allow anybody to die for him. His mentor, former Secretary General of Hezbollah Abbas Al-Mousawi, was not afraid of death until the Israelis assassinated him, along with his wife and son, in broad daylight. Many other Hezbollah leaders faced death before Nasrallah. Prominent among them is their ultimate leader, Ali Khomeini, whom Nasrallah regards as his commandant. The man used to deliver speeches in the open, even if he has faced assassination attempts several times. His hand was injured in one such incident, and he continues to suffer until now due to this injury.

Therefore, Nasrallah’s justification for staying in the tunnel is unacceptable, because it is only an attempt to hide the truth. Apparently, the Hezbollah leader is following in the footsteps of Adolph Hitler, who reportedly hid inside a tunnel in Berlin during the Second World War. Hitler is said to have invited leaders and prominent political personalities to the tunnel to dictate his demands and orders. This is exactly what Nasrallah has been doing for years, which means that hiding is not an honorable act as he claims but an attempt to inflate his ego to a disgusting level.

Hitler committed suicide by shooting himself after his failure to implement the so-called Nazi plan. Will Nasrallah follow suit?
